MARKETS SUMMIT 2020 - BE ALERT! HIGH VUCA AHEAD!
Despite a gloomy outlook a year ago, global economic growth continues, credit remains easy, unemployment rates are close to historical lows, and markets boomed in 2019.
And yet, despite these benign conditions, elevated demand for safe-haven assets, including government bonds and gold, suggests that investors are anxious. Such fears reflect the current high VUCA - volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity - market environment which carries many risks, of course. But with those risks come opportunities, too. Portfolio construction practitioners need to discern which risks and opportunities are most likely to eventuate, whether they are already priced into markets, and how best to position portfolios as a result.
Markets Summit 2020 facilitates debate on the key drivers of and outlook for the markets (on a three- to five-year view) - with particular emphasis on being alert to the high VUCA risks and opportunities ahead - to aid your search for return, and to help you build better quality investor portfolios.
We'd welcome you joining us!
P.S. Why not also join us for Finology Summit 2020 "Investing biases, beliefs and behaviours" (Wed-Thu 19-20 Feb 2020) It will help you better identify and understand how your own and other people's different biases, beliefs and behaviours around investing, impact on investment markets - and influence portfolio construction philosophy and practices - to help you build better quality investor portfolios. Coming from interstate? We strongly recommend you fly in the evening prior - it's a jam-packed program and it's best to be fresh to get the most from it (and flight delays could jeopardise your CE/CPD accreditation).
To help delegates better understand the key drivers of and outlook for the markets (geopolitical, economic and asset class), and the opportunities and risks ahead, on a three- to five-year view, to aid their search for return and to help them build better quality investor portfolios.
MOST SUITED TO
Markets Summit Summit is relevant to all wealth management professionals – both institutional and wholesale – who have a responsibility to understand the drivers of and outlook for investment markets.
This includes both institutional and wholesale portfolio construction practitioners (the program is designed with both in mind) by whom we mean those whose primary day-to-day role is focused within the spectrum of issues involved in designing and building investment portfolios using (but not necessarily limited to) managed funds from a range of firms.
We also recognise and respect the invaluable role of Advocates and welcome them attending.
Each year, more than 600 delegates attend the program, 75% or more of whom are portfolio construction practitioners.
CE/CPD ACCREDITATION: 7.5 to 11.5 CE hrs
By attending the face-to-face program in full, delegates can earn 7.5 CE/CPD hours – and then, afterwards, they can earn further CE/CPD hours by “attending” online the sessions they didn't catch at the face-to-face program.
CE hours earned can be used to help meet the CE/CPD requirements of 16 governing bodies (regulators, associations and institutes - including ASIC, APRA, FASEA, AFA, FPA, SMSFA and CIMA® CE/CPD requirements.
The Forum’s subject matter focus is on five Knowledge Domains – philosophy, markets, strategies, investing and finology. These then determine our Curriculum and Faculty, which together inform the content of our continuing education and certification programs.
As the name implies, Markets Summit is focused primarily on our "Markets" knowledge domain:
– understanding the drivers of and outlook for the investment
Markets Summit is THE investment markets scene setter of the year. ThePresented in Sydney each February, the face-to-face and online learning program features 20+ leading investment thinkers - geopolitical specialists, economists, market/asset class experts, and investment strategists - from around the world, offering their best high conviction ideas on the drivers of and outlook for the markets (on a three- to five-year view) in the context of the theme - and the implications for portfolios.
It is a companion program to Finology Summit each February and Strategies Conference each August.
Like all our face-to-face and online continuing education programs, Markets Summit is an integrated learning program with preparation, participation and review.
Before - Prepare
To maximise learning, delegates are provided with pre-reading aimed at boosting their knowledge and getting them thinking about the issues to be addressed in the program. The preparation is assumed prior knowledge.
During - Participate
The one-day program is designed and curated by our specialist, experienced and independent team. It is comprised of the 5.5-hour Critical Issues Forum (auditorium lecture) program and 1.5-hour Special Interest Forum (elective lecture) program. In these, our Faculty of carefully selected outstanding subject matter experts from around the world – noted academics, independent consultants, and investment professionals facilitated by our Faculty Partners (quality funds management firms) – offer their best high conviction ideas on the drivers of and outlook for the markets (on a three- to five-year view) in the context of the theme (Be alert! High VUCA ahead!) - and the implications for portfolios.
Markets Summit is not just a talk-fest. Attendees are challenged to decide whether they agree or disagree with each high conviction thesis presented, which ones they will investigate further, and which they will put into practice when building investor portfolios.
After - Review
After the face-to-face program, delegates' learning continues. The presentations are webcast here on portfolioconstructionforum.edu.au – a page per presentation featuring the sync’d video and slides, podcast, presentation slides and paper(s). Delegates can revisit and review the sessions they attended, "attend" the 9 Special Interest Forum sessions they didn't catch at the face-to-face program (and earn further CE hours), and review their key takeouts and the portfolio construction implications to determine actions to take to build better quality investor portfolios.
