Coming from interstate? We strongly recommend you fly in the evening prior - it's a jam-packed program and it's best to be fresh to get the most from it (and flight delays could jeopardise your CE/CPD accreditation).
To enable you to join with the full spectrum of investment analysts - practitioners and advocates, academics from leading university business schools, independent consultants, central bankers, regulators and professional investors - to consider key contemporary investment research issues.
MOST SUITED TO
Symposium is relevant to the full spectrum of investment management analysts - practitioners, advocates, consultants, professional investors, and academics.
Each year, 150 delegates attend the program, including academics and financial services professionals - both practitioners and advocates - focused on the spectrum of issues involved in designing and building investment portfolios. This includes those from private wealth management firms, investment research and consulting houses, and funds management, superannuation and investment platform companies.
Symposium is particularly suited to CFA Charterholders and CIMA® certificants. It is one of two key annual gatherings of CIMA Society of Australia members.
CE/CPD ACCREDITATION: 12 hours
By attending the program in full, delegates can earn 12 CE hours which can be used to help meet the CE/CPD requirements of 16 governing bodies (regulators, associations and institutes) - including ASIC, FASEA, FPA, CFA, and CIMA® CE/CPD requirements.
Symposium is presented by the Investment Management Research Program (IMR Program), the specialist academic research unit of Portfolio Construction Forum. The IMR Program curates a range of courses, workshops and symposia, and funds academic research studies. It is headed by Professor Ron Bird who established its antecedent while at UTS. In 2017, Portfolio Construction Forum became involved and in 2019, the IMR Program established a collaboration with Macquarie University. The IMR Program is supported by the CIMA Society of Australia, and is one of just four Registered Education Providers for the global Certified Investment Management Analyst® certification program.
The Investment Management Research Program presents contemporary research across the five Portfolio Construction Forum Knowledge Domains:
Symposium is THE investment management research conference of the year. The blended face-to-face and online program designed and curated by our specialist, experienced and independent team. It features our Symposium 2019 Faculty of 25 leading thinkers - academics from leading university business schools, professional investors, consultants, central bankers, regulators and experienced practitioners and advocates - from around the world, presenting research related to this year's theme, "We are living in exceptional times".
Symposium is an integrated learning program with preparation, participation and review.
Before - Prepare
To maximise learning, delegates are provided with pre-reading aimed at boosting their knowledge and getting them thinking about the issues to be addressed in the program. The preparation is assumed prior knowledge.
During - Participate
The program features the 12-hour "Critical Issues Forum" (plenary) program, featuring our Faculty of 25 leading thinkers - academics from leading university business schools, professional investors, consultants, central bankers, regulators and experienced practitioners and advocates - from around the world, presenting research related to this year's theme, "We are living in exceptional times".
Symposium is not just a talk-fest. Attendees are challenged to decide whether they agree or disagree with each high conviction thesis presented, which ones they will investigate further, and which they will put into practice when building investor portfolios.
After - Review
After the live program, delegates' learning continues. The presentations are webcast here on portfolioconstructionforum.edu.au – a page per presentation featuring the sync’d video and slides, podcast, presentation slides and paper(s). Delegates can revisit and review the sessions, to decide their key takeouts and the portfolio construction implications to determine actions to take to build better quality investor portfolios.
