Is the dollar really doomed?

If economics can be confusing, international economics can be more confusing by an order of magnitude. Consider the following truism espoused by virtually all investors - when global investors wish to dump some of their dollar assets and curtail their annual purchase of US assets, they can do so. The resulting "shortage" of US foreign capital inflows will in turn drive up US interest rates.
