Introduction

We like to think our beliefs are the result of a long, thoughtful evaluation, the product of carefully curated information and our personal experiences. This viewpoint, though, is probably a little flattering. In reality, the information we perceive, and how we understand it, could just as easily depend on how it was presented, what we were doing before it was presented, what else was presented at the same time, or simply on what those around us believe.
