Decarbonisation happens regardless of Trump

The potential re-election of former US president Donald Trump raises the risk that American climate change policy will be destabilised. Yet many aspects of President Joe Biden’s key policy – the Inflation Reduction Act – are supported by both Republicans and Democrats. Equity investors should therefore set aside their fears of a second Trump presidency and focus instead on the structural opportunities presented by decarbonisation. Three themes – energy efficiency, the circular economy and clean energy – offer resilient investment returns.
